“I can't remember the first time I met Chris Allison, but there are sparkles of encounters. Like the time he delivered a beautiful painted violin case to my house in the rain. He had fixed it so that I could hang it exactly where and exactly the way I wanted to. Then, the time he let Susan and I peak into his old studio, and my mind was completely blown. That's the day I scored the disco ball he upcycled. It now hangs on my front porch - a kinda salute to our crabby HOA 🤣. But the best one is the time we saw him and his wife walking down the sidewalk in Clayton, and they both reached out to hold each other's hand. It was the sweetest!! How would I describe Chicken Fried Folk Art? It’s a little wacky like RA Miller. A little colorful like Jimmy Lee Suddeth. A little joyful like Reverend Howard Finster. With a heaping dose of side-eyed to culture like Andy Warhol. It makes me smile. It makes me laugh. And after buying folk art since the mid-80s, it was time to add some fun to my collection.
